Pete Kuzma

Pete Kuzma, has come a long way from his days of studying composition, jazz and classical performance at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ. He is the keyboard player and music director for critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Jill Scott. Currently, he’s touring with Jill, rockin’ with his Korg TRITON Extreme, TRITON Pro and CX-3 Combo Organ. “I’ve been using Korg for a long time. It’s definitely one of my first choices with gear,” says Pete.

Performing since the age of seven, Pete learned a great deal about music from the masters. His influences include Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, and Stevie Wonder. “I really dig jazz and funk, and since I’ve been working with Jill I can add that soul flavor to the music,” describes Pete. He has been working with Jill Scott since 2000. “I ended up doing some studio sessions with her on her first record, Who is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds, Vol. 1,” recalls Pete. “I turned out some great ideas, took the musical director’s spot, and have been there ever since.”

Pete’s newest addition to his awesome keyboard line-up is the Korg TRITON Extreme. “The thing I really dig about the TRITON Extreme is that little tube. It’s crazy,” explains Pete. “Upon first glance I felt skeptical, but it really works. It makes the sound so much warmer and thicker. I have the tube preamp saved in all my patches and combinations that I use for touring.” Besides using the TRITON Extreme when he’s on tour, Pete also carries with him a Korg CX-3 Combo Organ. Pete describes his experience, “I’m a big organist, and the first time I heard someone playing the CX-3, I knew I had to have one. It’s definitely the most authentic sounding organ out there and if you put it through a Leslie it sounds ridiculous.” Pete definitely has a high admiration for Korg products. In his studio he uses the TRITON Pro. He grew up playing a piano and that’s where his heart lies, “I’m a big piano fanatic and I really dig the grand piano sound that the TRITON Pro has,” explains Pete. “I love playing it in my studio and really appreciate it cause of where I came from.”
